What We Do

Our Causes

Liberty In Action Kenya (LIBAC-Kenya) is a women-led, rights-based organization advancing social inclusion by addressing harmful social norms through four core thematic areas: Gender Justice and Child Protection, Youth Leadership, Climate Action and Social Accountability with a focus on marginalized communities. Rooted in community structures and led by individuals with lived experience, LIBAC is committed to translating grassroots voices into meaningful, lasting change. LIBAC leverages trusted community platforms and volunteer-led initiatives to sustain grassroots engagement and ensure its interventions are locally driven and accessible.

We adopt a survivor-centred and trauma-informed approach, ensuring that our programs are grounded in empathy, individualized care, and the dignity of every person. LIBAC’s founders and leadership bring over a decade of collective experience in community development, with strong technical expertise in social norms change programming, gender-based violence prevention and response, civic education, youth inclusion, and policy advocacy. Our approach is participatory, inclusive, and anchored in intersectional feminism and social justice, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of equity and transformation.

What we do

How we work

Our Community-Based Protection & Empowerment Model

LIBAC-Kenya delivers all its programs through the Community-Based Protection and Empowerment Approach (CBPEA), a participatory, inclusive, and survivor-centred model that empowers communities to lead their own transformation.

CBPEA is built on five ethical principles:  it is survivor-centred, trauma-informed, rights-based, feminist and inclusive, and committed to do no harm. Originally developed by UNHCR and adopted by organizations such as CARE and IRC, the approach ensures community members are not passive recipients, but co-creators of long-term solutions. We have localized this model to reflect Kenya’s social realities and resilience.
